    A while back I tried to sign up for a broadband and phone account with TalkTalk. They promised connection by 29th June but made no effort to let me know that I wouldn't be getting it by then.

    Because I was left with no phone line or internet with zero promise of when the service would be delivered, I cancelled. I'd already paid a year's line rental up front, so asked for a refund.

    Eventually I was told I'd get it within 10 days. On day 12 I called and they said there had been an error in processing the refund. I queried what they would have done if I hadn't have called them. They did a telephonic version of a shrug.

    After complaining of my business being hampered by their ineptitude I was offered £10. Then someone called me up from TalkTalk out the blue to tell me she couldn't help me because she couldn't access my account.

    I have no idea.
